Why is it important?
The experiences of boys in child- and youth-headed households are important to understand as they may be able to support their families better since they hold a dominant position in society.
Perspectives
This research article was interesting and challenging to write as it is unique in that it takes a different approach to the exploration of the topic of orphaned and vulnerable children. The majority of the research focuses in this field on girls and their vulnerability whereas this study looks at boys and their ability to overcome difficulties in their circumstances. Further exploration in this area could contribute significantly to empowering child- and youth-headed households.
