Why is it important?
The contribution of T.C.Das on the study of Bengal famine is important because he had done a first-hand study of the famine affected people with help of team-work with his colleagues and students. The Nobel Laureate economist Amartya Sen used this study of Das in his famous work on Bengal famine of 1943.
Perspectives
I was really surprised when I first read T.C.Das's book and found that this book remained almost unnoticed in the anthropological circles of India and abroad. This inspired to undertake the work.
