What is it about?

This study is about investigating Marcia's ego-identity paradigm among Lebanese youth. We wanted to know whether young people in a patriarchal society show the same pattern of identity development as the youth in the West. We also examined gender differences and academic achievement in relation to the participants' identity status.

Why is it important?

Studies on identity development are scarce in the Middle East and particularly in Lebanon. Therefore, this study shed light on an area of research not much explored in this part of the world.

Perspectives

I expected to find gender differences, such as girls being in foreclosure and boys in moratorium, but no gender differences were found. This leads me to believe that the youth in traditional cultures are developing in trajectories similar to those found in the West, possibly due to social media. More research on this topic is needed before solid conclusions could be drawn.
