What is it about?

The urban plan of 1965 aimed to reorganize the monocentric agglomeration of Paris. With different kinds of data, it is possible to analyze the consequences of this project. If the new towns have contributed to a new organization of the urban area of Paris, they could be progressively marginalized by the new urban project called Grand Paris.

Why is it important?

In this article we try to show the place of the new towns according to the dynamics of the urban area of Paris. If it is difficult to consider that the new towns are completely successful, they contribute to a more polycentric urban pattern. The approach is not urbanistic, we do not try to describe the choices of the urban planners who have built the new towns. We prefer to measure the influence of these new towns in the urban system of Paris.
