Discussions on Latino/a students treat racial/ethnic identification as static, despite skin color variation. This article provides findings of a qualitative study into how Mexican high school students discuss their racial and ethnic identity in relation to their skin color.

Perspectives

The Latina/o studies field has minimally explored the significance and impact of skin color variation. The intention of this article is to interject other dynamics of marginalization being experienced by various Latino/a affiliated groups.
