What is it about?

A review of recent decisions in the Church of Scotland and the Roman Catholic Church on the need to be more proactive about the decline in infant baptisms with a view towards preparing the church to receive members by adult conversion to Christianity.

Why is it important?

The Christendom practice of infant baptism is in radical decline across the Western Church. In consequence, future growth will come from adult conversions to Christianity rather than from within the existing church. Those coming to Christ as adults may know very little about Christianity and will need considerable education and support to ensure lifelong practice.

Perspectives

This article is a summary version of my recent doctoral thesis and will hopefully encourage other church leaders to participate in a wider discussion about the need for adequate catechesis of new Christians.
