This is a how-to guide for using above-level testing (also called above-grade testing or out-of-level testing) to measure the ability of gifted students. The article includes practical guidelines and case studies.

Why is it important?

Hundreds of thousands of children take above-level tests every year, and yet research shows that most school personnel do not know how to use the scores in educational planning. This article is an effort to make above-level test scores more useful to educators.

Perspectives

I had a wonderful time co-authoring with my colleague, Dr. Karen Rambo-Hernandez. We built on one another's ideas and had a lot of success in creating a piece of literature that was accessible and informative.
