What is it about?
The review argues that this a very valuable collection, but that the focus on national differences can obscure the important of other differences in approach between the cases that are discussed.

Why is it important?
There has been growing interest in the idea of 'Public Sociology' in recent years, particularly since Michael Burawoy's 2004 presidential address to the American Sociological Association. However, the variety of forms this can take remains relatively under-documented.
Perspectives
Reviewing this collection had a big impact on my work, and I continue to return to it in teaching and in discussions with colleagues.
