What is it about?

In this research paper I discovered the role of five notable anthropologists of India who contributed to the three major problems encountered by the planners and policy makers of independent India in the initial period.

Why is it important?

In this study I have been able to show that the five notable anthropologists dealt with three crucial problems of the new Indian nation. The problems were famine, resettlement of refugees and resettlement and rehabilitation of populations displaced by development projects like big dams and industries. This finding is new in the writing of the history of Indian anthropology since so far the authors have dealt anthropology in India only as a product of British colonial rule.

Perspectives

I believe that this article throws light on the writing of history of Indian anthropology from a secular and nationalist perspective.
