What is it about?

This paper is about the contributions of pioneering Indian anthropologist name Tarak Chandra Das(1898-1964), who was rather neglected by his own successors and historians of Indian anthropology in the colonial and post-colonial periods.I have narrated the contributions of T.C.Das, particularly his fieldwork based study on the Bengal Famine of 1943.

Why is it important?

This work is important for the writing of the history of Indian anthropology. This is also important because, I have highlighted the works of Das in the context of policy.

Perspectives

I believe that looking at Das's work has both policy implications as well as pedagogic importance for the teaching of nationalist anthropology in post-colonial India.
