What is it about?

MODELICA models usually become too complex. The complexity causes problems that are difficult to detect. So simplifications are urgent in all modelling phases and the proposed semi-automatic approach is one step in this direction.

Why is it important?

Practical approaches for automatic Modelica model reduction are not available. Energy-based realization preserving techniques are adopted for Modelica. A prototype toolbox inside the modelling environment OpenModelica is implemented. In the current stage the model-reduction tool cannot reduce the model completely automatically but the approach may still offer many useful insights and hints to the user.

Perspectives

Our activities can be treated as an initial attempt. The tool works on smaller parts in semi automatic way, so that usually some manual operations are needed. We are not sure if the approaches can be automatically used for real complex models in the future. But definitely there are many possibilities to continue with this research and development activities as the theory itself for this topic is rather extensive.
