What is it about?

The universal availability of contraception has reduced the meaning of the sexual act in the public mind to the moment. which often have side effects such as mood disorders and depression as well as serious physical consequences such as blood clots leading to strokes and heart attacks. Consequently there is no need for commitment before engaging in the act, and now 40% of children are born to single parents, while divorce has increased. Women are still conflicted about contraception, especially hormonal methods, hence often fail t to take them regularly. to overcome this hesitation health care providers are now pushing LARCs - Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives - IUD's and implants which act until removed, and suffer from the same side effects. As fertility is not a disease its physical markers only need to be understood in order to regulate the timing of pregnancy. Instruction in FABM's - Fertility Awareness Based Methods of family planning is available from accredited providers and onl n line.

Why is it important?

Many women are choosing natural methods of family planning for a variety of reasons- ecologic, religious, personal, philosophic. Fertility is not a disease, it does not need to be removed from the body with a drug. And it is cost free. Once a woman learns her own pattern of fertility/infertility she is set until after menopause.

Perspectives

I have taught and researched the Billings Ovulation Method of natural family planning for many years. It is easy to learn and effective, as are the other available methods.
