What is it about?

This is the first research to document the use of a computer intervention to amplify the brain changes that result in increased reading fluency. Structured use of this program based on specific reading behaviors resulted in faster processing and increased reading speed for special learners. Current reading fluency instruction is not effective for most special learners, including those on the autism spectrum, the learning disabled, and the incarcerated.

Why is it important?

Reading fluency is a chronic problem for many people, limiting their employment opportunities and reducing their access to print media. The development of this ground-breaking research into a commercially available product will be of interest to researchers, educators, administrators, and students. As a new topic of inquiry, there is much work to do to further clarify the neuro-biological changes that are produced with this kind of stimulation.

Perspectives

I an thrilled to be able to share this important research! As a classroom teacher of thirty years, I struggled (and failed for the most part) to give my students the tools they needed to read fluently. Special populations of all ages may finally be able to enjoy the effortless reading that fluent readers value.
