What is it about?

To determine the molecular role of Irf6 gene in salivary gland formation and differentiation during embryonic and fetal development. Based on the cellular similarity with the salivary gland, the function of Irf6 was also investigated in the pancreas at the mid- and late-gestational period.

Why is it important?

Irf6 is important for the differentiation of the secretory cells called mucous acinar cells.

Perspectives

It is important to validate these findings in human and determine the impact on oral health and dental caries.
