Why is it important?

The article is important as it considers legal reform and how the law can be used as an additional measure to tackle and address HBV and honour killings in the UK and bring perpetrators to justice. Currently, legal reforms in this area are lacking in the UK despite the recent criminalisation of forced marriages.

Perspectives

I wanted to write this article because the law has an important role to play. How can we achieve consistency in sentencing if there are no judicial guidelines to address HBV, honour killings and forced marriages? Hopefully, the Sentencing Council and those responsible for legal reform will read this article with great interest and (hopefully) the article will help to stimulate debate and reform in this area. Furthermore, those with an interest in combating Violence Against Women will find this article of particular interest.
