What is it about?

This article explains how the German embassy in Madrid organised different propaganda campaigns in Franco's Spain during the Second World War. It shows how these campaigns were targeted to different audiences and make use of Spain to influence Latin America and Morocco as well. It also shows how these campaigns were developed with assistance from the Falange, Franco's single party, something that was known by the dictator himself.

Why is it important?

This research shows how Spain was important to Nazi Germany not only because of the raw materials it produced (wolfram for example) or because of Gibraltar, but also because of her connections to other areas like Latin America and Morocco. This is also important because these interests existed in German Foreign Policy during the First World War and the interwar period, and show that Spain was, most of the time, more valuable to Germany as a neutral country than as a participant in the war.
