What is it about?
The article analyzes Yasmin Alibhai-Brown's two autobiographical texts and shows how she is critical of the ambiguous position occupied by her community. She is not afraid to highlight the racism and classism of the Asians but at the same time she celebrates the bravery and determination of the women of her community to break down barriers.

Why is it important?
This is one of the few articles dedicated to the autobiographies of the journalist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown. It also adds a valuable contribution to studies on East African Asian women who have tended to be ignored by scholars.
Perspectives
I hope that this article will make people think more carefully about East African Asians, and in particular, East African Asian women as they have been relegated to an inferior position and my research has proved that they were and are determined characters.
