What is it about?
A small astrolabe in Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, is confirmed as being closely associated with Walter de Elveden, writer of one of the Kalendaria in the early 14th century and which preceded those cited by Geoffrey Chaucer at the end of the century.

Why is it important?
Evidence is provided to confirm the ownership of the astrolabe by the College for well over six centuries. It is linked to the early blossoming of astrology/astronomy in England at this period and links the design to that of Gothic architecture, particularly at Norwich Cathedral, where it was used.
