What is it about?

Global Standards cover all of social work education while Australasia also has local standards. Together they address a range of equity issues related to students, staff, the programme itself and the rights of target groups. Can Global and local standards democratize social work education and improve its ability to operationalize core professional values such as equity?

Why is it important?

Global Standards for social work education and local standards in Australasia have strong alignment but also target different features. Australasia has a focus on indigenous rights whereas the Global Standards promote the make up of the student cohort and of the faculty being representative of the service user community. Together global and local standards can assist the mission of social work education to advance its core value of equity among others.
