What is it about?
Fuel consumption varies at household levels from traditional fuels like firewood and chips to modern fuels such as LPG. Empirical findings of this study indicate that significantly income determines quantity consumption, not choice decision.

Why is it important?
Fuel consumption is based on two stage decisions: (i) whether households select one fuel or not; and (ii) how much consume, if it is selected. Significant factors might be different in first stage and second stage due to certain socio-economic or non-price factors. Hence, double hurdle model (Cragg 1971) is better than any other models.
Perspectives
Decisions of household regarding fuel choice and its actual consumption are important research issue focusing on sustainable development goals (SDG) for year 2030. Least attention has been given on hurdles in fuel choice and quantity decision of fuel consumption at household levels in developing countries like India.
