Why is it important?
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, an accumulation of fat in the liver. Almost 20% of adults may have fatty liver disease, especially obese and diabetic patients. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis is a more severe form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, which can progress to more serious problems like cirrhosis. There are no current drugs approved to treat the diseas.
