What is it about?

We surveyed several hundred families who homeschooled a child identified as gifted or high-ability to learn what they thought about the possibility of their child returning to a traditional school environment. Their five main reasons for the decision related to preferences, academics, concerns about future educational opportunities, satisfaction, and the well-being of their child.

Why is it important?

Many families are leaving traditional public or private schools for homeschooling. As supporters of public education, we thought it was important to learn why these families left and what it might take for them to return. For example, in the past many families who homeschooled did so for religious reasons, but this was not among the most common reasons families reported in our survey.
