What is it about?

This paper examines the motives and the objective boundaries to collective action in the context of the earthquakes caused by gas extraction in the northern Dutch province.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that people living in different regions of the same province experience and thus perceive the situation differently: people living in more objectively affected areas see the situation as more seriously violating their basic human rights. This also influence the likelihood and the reasons for engagement in collective and individual actions to change the situation.
