What is it about?

This is an action research study that explores students perceptions on blended learning and co-lecturing. The two innovative strategies are used concurrently in a tertiary environment. Co-lecturing using the blended learning model is about collaborative teaching between two lecturers who jointly adopt hybrid technologies in their teaching methodology.

Why is it important?

Blended learning is a pedagogical approach of seamlessly integrating web tools into the instructional design. The combination of blended learning and co-lecturing appeals to most students, especially the digital natives, The presence of two lecturers provide different teaching styles and a wider range of teaching ideas that make the lecture more interesting, leading to an increases in students' active engagement, improved learning outcomes and improves the student-lecturer relationship. Collaborative teaching between two lecturers offers the opportunity for lecturers to build greater curricular coherence, adopt shared responsibility for the intellectual and emotional growth of their students, engage in collaborative reflection, enhance their professional development and create a stronger sense of academic community.

Perspectives

From its inception to its completion, the novelty of this research publication may be attributed to its rigorous progress and development of having undergone various phases in its research life cycle. During its inception stage, processes like research grant application was inevitable. However, this was a memorable milestone and proud moment for the corresponding author for having been successfully selected as the recipient and Principal Investigator of a research grant. In academia, this was considered an accomplishment among the community of researchers and academics. The authors are also immensely grateful for the funding received from 'University Malaya Learning Improvement and Teaching Enhancement Research', as it formed an integral part to the successful completion of this research project.
