Perspectives

Our review showed that there is (at the time of our review) limited published strong evidence for the DIR Floortime-based programs. This does not mean that it doesn’t work, but that we don’t have strong PUBLISHED RESEARCH for its effectiveness. Of the limited research evidence published, outcomes for children were mostly reported for increased socio-emotional development. As practitioners, we need to be monitoring the use of this intervention well, creating and documenting your own evidence by using outcome measures (e.g. GAS, COPM and outcome-based assessments) and working with researchers to implement critically needed, well designed studies.
