What is it about?

Why is it important?

This is the first national sample of psychoactive medication use in Australian nursing homes. It's also very current.

Perspectives

We found that antipsychotic use had been reduced but it appears as if the agents have been substituted for other psychoactive agents such as benzodiazepines (e.g. Serepax, Valium) and antidepressants with sedating properties. The prescribing of 'prn' or 'as required' psychoactive agents is also higher than reported.
