Why is it important?

The topic of sex in prison is often viewed through a lens clouded by stereotypical yet incorrect assumptions about sex within the prison system. It is important to understand the issues relating to sex in prison and they consensual and non-consensual natures of the acts taking place. While there are a number of similarities in acts of sexual activity (both wanted and unwanted) between those inside of prison and those outside, there are significant differences which need to be addressed in order to respond to such acts appropriately.

Perspectives

This was a very interesting book to read. I was keen to review the work when it was published. It may have been more beneficial for the collection to approach the issue of sex in prison from a particular angle or with a focus on how to improve the situation of those who are faced with (consensual or non-consensual) sex in prison.
