What is it about?

In recent years, especially post 9/11, immigration has become an issue where we have witnessed the tension between federal and subfederal regulation of bodies and borders, especially after the passage of Arizona’s 2010 state-level immigration law, SB 1070. This article focuses exclusively on the seven states that have passed state-level immigration legislation.

My findings show that history and racial legacies in particular matter as we consider the geography of immigration laws.

This piece is part of a larger book project that argues for an historical framework when examining the geography of immigration laws.
