What is it about?
Research shows that race influences disciplinary practices in schools and results in negative consequences for students. My research shows how exactly race is significant by bringing to light the role of implicit racial appeals, which is intended to have positive outcomes for students of color.

Why is it important?
The research is important because (1) previous research on race and discipline focuses on outcomes of disciplinary practices than about the processes involved in arriving at them. My research focuses on these processes. (2) Race of students is often seen as detrimental to them in disciplinary practices in school. My research shows that this may NOT always be the case and sometimes taking race into account may have positive outcomes.
Perspectives
Writing this article was a very valuable learning experience because (1) it was challenging to write about black and white race interaction while being neither black nor white and and (2) during a time when race relations couldn't be more significant and often seen as resulting in negative impact for minorities in the US.
