Authors' reply to a letter about the sodium equation.

What is it about?

The new sodium equation explicitly includes a rate of serum [Na] correction, to help make the treatment of hyponatremia or hypernatremia safer. Also, the equation is the first that can calculate a dose of salt tablets.

Why is it important?

The treatment of dysnatremia can be more quantitative and safer for the patient.
