What is it about?
There has recently been more interest in AI and robotics in marketing and service research but in general the number of publications remains super low. We review the papers that have been published, and provide an extensive list of ideas for future research.

Why is it important?
Our review shows that the research has mostly focused on how service providers can predict some changes in the market. We suggest unique ideas how the field could develop by focusing more on the customer-side. For instance, we develop the idea of autonomous shopping bots.
Perspectives
Reviewing the extant literature was eye-opening. First, I was shocked how little there were articles about the topic. While there are some limitations with our search terms, I believe it shows the reality in the big picture. While writing the article, we were able to develop some crazy ideas what could be studied in the future. I really like the idea of Shopping Bot 3.0 - an autonomous shopping device that can learn from its own data and other devices to make purchase decisions autonomously.
