What is it about?

This paper examines whether a mentoring programme in the mental health setting can have a positive impact on the student nurse mentee experience, and whether it benefits the registered nurse mentor.

Why is it important?

Recruiting and retaining nurses in mental health is problematic. The findings of this study suggest that this could be a useful strategy to encourage students to choose mental health post graduation, and may also enhance the environment for those already working in mental health.

Perspectives

I hope that this work can help draw attention to the need to invest in mental health nursing.
