What is it about?

The importance of quality interpersonal relationships between teachers and their school heads, teachers and their pupils, teachers and the parents of their pupils, and among teachers and pupils in primary schools. This article reports on an investigation of the kinds of disagreements that could occur in Ghanaian primary schools, the issues that could lead to disagreements and harm relations between teachers, pupils and headteachers, how such situations could affect teaching and learning activities, the atmosphere in schools and the quality of education in Ghana. The idea is that ectiveness at the level of headteachers as administrators, teachers as classroom managers, and pupils as learners.

Why is it important?

Disagreements in the school environment can strain good relationships and cause unnecessary tensions between teachers, headteachers and pupils during the school day. Our findings show that poor relations between teachers, headteachers and pupils lead to unnecessary arguments, loss of focus, loss of self confidence, lack of concentration, loss of teaching time, disrespect, among others. Pupils who experience these effects may be too unhappy to go to school and eventually stop going to school.

Perspectives

Writing this paper made think deeply of the need for adultsale to model good behaviour at all times so that children would learn to exhibit positive attitudes wherever they are. I have gained much insight into interpersonal conflict in the school environment as a possible cause of poor academic achievement and incidences of school drop among pupils in parts of Ghana.
