What is it about?

This is a prospective cohort study of intensive care unit patients who received a comparative venous glucose measurement along with up to three capillary measurements. We found only one clinical significant measurement inaccuracy and found that hypoglycemia was never overestimated.

Why is it important?

While previous studies have focused on the numerical differences between measurement modalities, ours focused on whether those differences actually matter. We noted no significant clinical impact in our cohort and are unlikely to abandon the use of convenient and fast POC glucometers in our intensive care unit.
