Leadership is very important for leaders. We have shown for the characteristics that have effects to Job satisfaction, organizational commitment and turnover intention of civil engineers.

Why is it important?

The results of the quantitative research were shown that: 1) eight characteristics were appropriate to be used as a contemporary leader model of the project manager. 2) contemporary leadership had a positive direct influence on job satisfaction and organizational commitment that influence on organizational commitment was higher than that of job satisfaction. It also found that contemporary leadership, job satisfaction and organizational commitment have a direct negative influence on turnover intention. Contemporary leadership has the greatest influence on turnover intention which is passed on by job satisfaction and organizational commitment, and 3) the structural equation model developed by the researcher was significant consistent with the empirical data. The qualitative findings were mostly agreeable with the quantitative results except for the OC aspect where the interviewees view as common sense and attached the greatest value to the OC’s monetary components, as opposed to the quantitative results that focus on normative organizational commitment.

Perspectives

The research findings are expected to shed light on the influence of contemporary leadership (CL) on job satisfaction (JS), organizational commitment (OC) and turnover intention (TI) in the context of the construction industry in Thailand, given that the existing research on this topic is nonexistent. Furthermore, the findings verify the effectiveness of contemporary leadership in remediating the high employee turnover problem, particularly of the civil engineers, that have plagued this industry.
