This paper explores the access and use of data for decision making by school principals. It considers how the policy context influences current practices and school leaders aspirations for the use of data.

Why is it important?

Increasing amounts of digital data are available to school leaders which can inform management and leadership decisions. However, principals do not necessarily have the expertise or time to manually manipulate the data into meaningful results. This paper explores how principals use and make sense of data and how they would like to be able to synthesis and analysis data in the future.
