What is it about?
Higher education promises a "transformative experience"... but what does that actually look like? This article describes personal transformation described by a group of professional adults upon reflection on their undergraduate, post-professional educational experience. Gaining a broader perspective, confidence and new skills to apply in professional practice were among the findings.

Why is it important?
The findings from this qualitative study inform educators for teaching and assessing adult learners for a transformative experience in the context of learning.
Perspectives
The broad and often expressed promise of "transformation'" although worthy in spirit, is difficult to assess. This study was generated from a belief in the value of "transformation" in the context of learning, coupled with a respect for the assessment process. A theoretical triad from psychology (Constructive Development), student development (Self Authorship) and adult learning (Transformative Learning) provided a foundation upon which to study the concept of personal transformation. The findings affirm the personal transformation that most educators witness in their students, and suggests parameters for assessing student transformation.
