What is it about?
The lateral plantar fascia is an understudied topic as most research focuses on the central plantar fascia due to its relevance in plantar fasciitis. However, the lateral plantar fascia overlies the lateral plantar nerve when the deep band is present. This anatomical study adds a new dimension of thought as it relates to plantar fasciitis and other conditions of the plantar foot.

Why is it important?
To date, there is no literature that references the interaction of the deep band of the lateral plantar fascia with the lateral plantar nerve. This new discovery adds the exact location where this interaction most often occurs in the foot.
Perspectives
This literature takes the study of anatomy of the plantar foot to a new level as the deep band of the lateral plantar aponeurosis that we discovered has not been documented before.
