Why is it important?
Letters of recommendation play an important role in the job search. This work examines how the letters of recommendation genre has shifted when used in online locations. The article lays out a theoretical understanding of the genre, as well as practical implications for those who need to use the genre either as writers or evaluators.
Perspectives
This work is designed to be useful to both scholars and practitioners, in that we have developed a theoretical understanding of the functions of digital letters of recommendation, while also providing tools for more effectively creating, using, and analyzing letters of recommendation in the workplace.
