What is it about?
This research identifies barriers for trans students who want to participate in university sport. Drawing on an interview with one trans student, and focus groups with student union officers, current issues are analysed and recommendations for change are outlined. In particular, critiques of the two sex/gender categorisation system evident in most sports is critiqued.

Why is it important?
Barriers for trans people in sport are complex. Recommendations are provided to student unions and others in control of sport to increase inclusion for all.
Perspectives
I hope this article is seen as a valuable and thought-provoking contribution. Trans participation in sport was an interesting part of my PhD research and I am happy to share these findings which will hopefully stimulate some further discussions on this important issue.
