What is it about?
The article provides an endogenous explanation of honesty as an ethical value and its overall influence on software project performance. The article traces the growth of research on honesty, its perpetuation as a core ethical value by the Project Management Institute (PMI) USA and the research gaps therein. We have demonstrated the use of grounded theory in uncovering a culture specific understanding of this ethical value, the challenges in its execution and its influence on project performance.

Why is it important?
The paper is important as it demonstrates that though Indian software organizations accept the PMI core ethical values at a normative level, its very meaning in local project contexts is different. This difference also paves way to challenges in its execution and the overall effect on performance. The results also highlight certain unique cultural values present in India.
Perspectives
The paper is important as it talks about the practical utility of honesty as an ethical value.
