Ethical assessment of clinical policies

What is it about?

Clinical Policy Ethics Assessment Tool (CliPEAT) is a clinical policy ethical assessment tool created to identify issues in nursing practice policies, protocols and guidelines. This paper shows how it was created using the Roberts Research Protocol Ethics Assessment Tool (RePEAT) as a template, how it was modified and its reliability in a pilot test with 54 policies.

Why is it important?

CliPEAT can identify ethical issues as it has shown reliability in detecting issues in clinical policies involving human participants. The improvement of these clinical policies affect both service users and healthcare professional directly and encourage policymakers to consider common ethical dilemmas in nursing practice.
