Why is it important?

The study highlights the sophisticated manner of using the natural environment by ancient people, with the resultant much better adaptation capacity to living in drylands.

Perspectives

This is the first time to suggest an intentional dual-use of wine presses as cisterns for harvesting of runoff water in drylands. It seems that such a dual use was prevalent in ancient times also in other dryland regions.
