What is it about?

The study found that when doctors give their patients some information about engaging in physical activity to promote a healthy lifestyle, the patient is 2 1/2 times more likely to be knowledgeable about using smartphones for wellness and 3 times more likely to use mobile health apps to engage in preventive care behaviors (calorie counting, step counting and stress management).

Why is it important?

The finding is important because limited support for physical activity engagement can lead to sustained engagement in healthy behaviors outside the clinic setting and this can help to improved patients' health outcome and reduced health care costs in the long run.
