What is it about?
After millions and millions of dollars spent on employee engagement, most people are left to wonder what the intention is of all this activity. Are employers trying to encourage employees to work more hours? Do they really want them to do 'above and beyond' work and take time away from their core job? The question about intent is rarely discussed. This paper focuses on just that question and uses role theory to help connect the dots between engagement programs, intent and outcomes. Using the models and examples in the article, research can be more focused, and employers can create engagement activities with higher return on investment.
