What is it about?
Piloting the incorporation of Community Health Workers as team leaders for diabetes group visits in a low-income, Hispanic population
Featured Image
Why is it important?
No previous studies reported Community Health Workers as part of the leadership team in diabetes group visits. Patients in this study improved their glycemic control and preventive care when compared to usual care (control group)
Perspectives
Diabetes is worsening in the Hispanic population. They face many barriers including cultural, language, and health literacy. Our current methods are insufficient and we need to find creative ways to improve their care. Community Health Workers are a promising, system-level intervention to improve healthcare for Hispanics.
