What is it about?

When missionaries have to suddenly exit the place in which they are working, it's traumatic. But what do we know about experiences like that and how can we help? Understanding what led up to and followed after an evacuation, learning how severe the break down of relationships can be, and listening with care to their stories can help them heal.

Why is it important?

Even though missionary evacuations are becoming more common, very little has been written about the experience and the trauma it causes. So this is an important conversation.

Perspectives

I hope that this article will be of encouragement, validating the voices of missionaries and expatriate workers who have been through an evacuation. I also hope that this article will help agencies, friends, and family of evacuated workers to care for them better and walk alongside them toward restoration.
