What is it about?

It is about how research and implementation were married to launch and scale a index based technology by an organization whose core mandate is producing international public goods, thus illuminating a innovative research practice and processes for better impact

Why is it important?

We illustrate and provide lessons to encourage international research organizations and institutions such as the CGIAR to try innovations in the processes of doing things and step beyond the scope of exploring best methods instead of best practices. In the changing landscape of what is considered as impact, we present a case where we argue modifying research practice does not necessarily mean moving away from the core mandate of international research organizations, but being open to institutional changes to deliver and scale technologies in complex environments.

Perspectives

Writing this paper was very exciting and a challenge at the same time, as such kind of process has not really been documented. It was a story of a live project where three of the five authors have been integral parts of. This was an opportunity to present a case that in order to have a significant impact of technologies in complex environments, research and implementation cannot be isolated but should go hand in hand and should feed off of each other.
