What is it about?
This article explains the nature and scope of United States security cooperation/partnership with Nigeria. This covers specific aspects of military funding, troops contribution, intelligence support, provision of fighting weapons and counterrorism support. These factors are contextualized and matched with strong empirical evidence to show how United States-Nigeria security cooperation has impacted Nigeria's counterterrorism war. The case of Boko Haram forms a baseline for the study.

Why is it important?
This study attempts a new approach of studying Nigeria's security. This study examines Nigeria's security and counterterrorism war from external perspective and faults the nature, components and operations of United States security assistance to Nigeria as a key reason for the intractability of the Boko Haram terrorism in Nigeria.
Perspectives
Nigeria will successfully win her counterterrorism war only if the components and operations of United States counterterrorism support/assistance and security cooperation with Nigeria are effectively and adequately structured, undiluted and tapped/explored to its fullest.
