What is it about?

The living experiences of young people in orphanages have impact on their holistic well-being. This paper examines the past and present lived experiences of young people in foster homes and how these can contribute to becoming resilient or non-resilient adult using life course approach orientation.

Why is it important?

We found out that young people life is in three phases of the past, present and the subjected future. However, the past and present phases tend to have effect on the education, marriage and career pathway of young people despite harnessing the available opportunities in foster homes.

Perspectives

I have greatly benefitted in collaborating with the co-author, as my mentor and former teacher. This article provides insight for social workers, foster home and organisations into understanding the lived-experiences of young people. This insight can ameliorate negative outcomes towards young people transition into adulthood. I hope its perspective from African (Nigeria) and Europe (Portugal) will be challenging.
